THERMEMARİS HİSTORY STORY
The history of ThermeMaris Lake and its inhabitants, the Nile turtles.
The thermal lake and its health benefits were known in ancient Egypt as far back as Cleopatra were living. She traveled to the shores of present-day Aegean Mediterranean to the tapered sources to enjoy the thermal lake. Since thousands of years it’s rumored that this sources have healing powers.
Also the fleet of Abbas the first of Egypt (Abbas Hilmi Pasha I) hit here during the Crimean war on land. In the bow of the ships were a large amount of Trionyx turtles, to be consumed by the soldiers on board during the cruise.
After the fleet made landfall and was able to enjoy the Ottoman delicacies, the crew let the rest of the turtles free on the lakeshore.
So the soft-shell turtles found their new home on the shores of the Thermal Lake.
Once human aversion, the Trionyx turtles feel today with the people at the ThermeMaris attracted. Loving care and feeding are the reason for this familiarity. They became also the mascot of the Health & Spa Resorts. These turtles are the last of their kind. Their designation are 3 long claws on the front flippers and a flat soft body with a flexible neck which they can rotate 180 degrees. Nowadays, only this turtles group is assigned to the species Trionychidae.
Why they are yet not completely extinct probably causes by the minerals of the springs which fed the lake. Without a doubt, the mineral springs have increased the fertility of these animals. The population is increasing, instead of laying eggs only once a year, these Trionyx lay rather more than 2 to 4 times per year. Instead of an average of 70 years of life time the ThermeMaris turtles exist over 100 years.
They feel so comfortable in the lake and the surrounding area that they stay all year-round in the lake. This is a sign that the thermal springs are a fountain of youth.
When Mr. Ertas Kasidecioğlu in late 80s came to Dalaman he felt in love with this natural park and its mineral springs. An idea was born; he would like to make this place available for all people. And so in 2000 the ThermeMaris opened its doors. A place of rejuvenation and recreation was created.
The ThermeMaris Health & Spa Resort uses these sources for the relief of various skin diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, eczema and other skin diseases, as well as rheumatic soft tissue and joint afflictions, even gynecological ailment and much more.
With 4 mother sources the ThermeMaris has hundreds of thousands of liters of this salvifically water flowing through the various basins in the Aquapark.
